In "Os Fotocines", an intimate portrait of the war is put together by those who lived through it. This feature-length documentary puts a spotlight on those on whose shoulders fell, during the Portuguese colonial war, the responsibility to fight and to defend their own lives, but also to record this collective mission. 

 

SABRINA D. MARQUES is a visual artist, scriptwriter and researcher who lives and works in Lisbon. With a degree in Media (FCSH) and a specialisation in Film (ESTC), she is also a PhD candidate in Art History (FCSH). She is a member of the Photography and Film Studies Cluster (IHA). She also publishes in several magazines and for several national and international publishers. She has experience programming and writing for film festivals, showcases, museums, galleries and film clubs. As a filmmaker, Marques has directed several academic shorts and film essays. Photo-Cines (2021) is her documentary feature directorial debut.

João Egreja was hired by RTP, Portugal’s state broadcaster, in 1968, to work in the Programming Department. Between 1970 and 1973, he was conscripted to serve in the army. Egreja served in the Army’s Cartographic Services (Photography and Cinema) from April 1971 and between January 1972 and October 1973 he was mobilised to Guinea-Bissau.

In 1974, he started working as a cinematographer at RTP, where he stayed until 1983. Between 1981 and 1983, he was responsible for the cinematography and was also co-director of the Vivamúsica series. From 1983 to 1985 he was head of the TV Production Department of the Unitrós-Portugal advertising agency. In 1986 he starts the advertising production company SHOTS (active until 2008), taking a role as producer and director. Between 2008 and 2011 he reactivates INTERFILME - Produções Cinematográficas, Lda.

Leonor Areal has been working in the interdisciplinary convergence of the areas of Literature, Communication, Education and Cinema. She has directed several documentaries; designed educational software; teaches and researches in the area of cinema, in which she has completed her PhD.
